I’ve been trained a lot differently than this quiz! Stage 1 (early labour): baby engages, contractions begin, bowels are cleared, loss of mucous plug, dilation <5cm. Stage 2 (active labour): dilation 5-10cm, contractions increasing in both intensity & frequency. Stage 3 (birth): contractions are of sufficient strength and frequency to facilitate decent, crowning, and birth. Stage 4 (after-birth): placenta is expelled. Notice how there is no pushing stage, because your body (under normal circumstances) does this on it's own. Pushing is doctor's demand to facilitate control over an otherwise natural process. I've also birthed a child is about an hour from start to finish, so the requirement for your contractions to be consistent for an entire hour before seeking your care provider is not (in my view) any way a good idea. Since labour progresses so differently for women, you need to basically have a list of factors that if apply should warrant seeking care. The purple line should certainly be included. Also, some wording is deceiving. Menstrual cramps happen when you're having your period, as the term menstrual specifically dictates by definition. Also the time period you ideally want to expel the placenta within is 5-20 minutes, but the time is takes to do so is far shorter absent of complications. Kind of like how your labour might be 48hrs, but active labour is much shorter!

Transfer to hospital or Birth Suite??? No, that question makes it sound like that’s what should happen. It isn’t. I only attend homebirth as it’s so much safer.

Some gals never have predictable contraction pattern, and that can be misleading to someone who’s trying to determine whether or not to head to the hospital/birth center!

I have never gotten near consistent contractions 4 mins. apart for 1 hr. I went from consistent, 9-10 mins apart contractions to 1.5 mins apart, fully dialated in a matter of minutes. By then, I was no where near the hospital. I wonder how common this is??

Unfortunately there are no rules for dilation. It can happen slowly or can be quick. Or start slow and progress quickly or the exact opposite!

There is no steady pattern of dilation… it can take hours to dilate 3 cm and then you can go from 3 to 10 cm in 40 minutes. This one is a bit misleading.
