Every Thursday I send an email with three quick tips to brighten your day and help you and your family lead a more natural life. Want to get it?
Baby has a big graduation this week. Can you guess what it is? And get ready for a new curveball—courtesy of your changing pregnancy hormones!
Yippee! Your baby is officially a fetus this week (although, we still prefer to call her Baby Natural).
Some good news: Your risk for miscarriage is substantially reduced this week. Your baby is also less susceptible to external risk factors, although you should never drink alcohol, smoke cigarettes, or use illicit drugs (obviously!).
And, as a natural mama, you'll want to use natural cleaning supplies and beauty products while limiting your exposure to other environmental toxins like pesticides and radiation.
Baby Natural is about 1 ½ inches long, or the size of a walnut (but much, much cuter). Her fingers and toes are becoming more defined, with tiny little nails growing in. And soft, fine hair (called lanugo) is now covering her skin.
I’ll never forget the fine hair that covered my son’s body when he was born—my sweet little monkey baby!
First, there’s the morning sickness. Then, there’s the crazy extreme fatigue. And then, just when you thought it might be safe to come out of hibernation, pregnancy throws another curve ball your way: dizzy spells.
Here’s the deal. Even though your blood volume is higher, your blood pressure is most likely lower, which can result in major dizzy spells.
So be gentle as you learn to adjust to your expanding circulatory system. As always with pregnancy, make sure you’re drinking plenty of fluids and keep up with the great pregnancy nutrition.
In fact, seasoning your food with high-quality sea salt can help build your blood volume, support your adrenals, and it may reduce dizziness. Protein also helps to build blood volume and may ward off the spinning room syndrome.
Eat strategic snacks throughout the day like toasted pumpkin seeds with sea salt, or celery (naturally high in sodium) with salted almond butter. If the dizziness continues or gets worse, reach out to your midwife or doctor.
