It wasn’t on our list and it took us three days after she was born to officially declare it. It’s the only name that suited the way she looked. We called her a bunch of names but nothing fit like this one. For those who don’t know, a Dahlia is a type of flower. They’re beautiful and the name itself is definitely unique, which is great. However, the biggest frustration in hindsight is pronunciation. There are three ways to pronounce it. D-Al-ee-yah (American), Day-lee-yah (British), Daw-lee-yah (Hindu). We say it the American way but the other two are the most common ways other people pronounce it. I fear she will get frustrated spending the rest of her life correcting people or just accepting incorrect names. But, even with all that said, I still can’t picture her with any other name.
