  1. We wanted a W name that had country roots. His middle name is James, Biblical.

  2. Once we found out baby was going to be a boy, my husband picked Waylon pretty early on. He wanted a name that wasn’t super popular or trendy, but had some longevity to it as well. Baby Waylon also seemed to dance to us playing Waylon Jennings’ music to him in the womb as well! We are in love!

  3. He’s so cute and perfect!

  4. My husband and I we’re discussing names one night in the car. I had asked him if he liked the name Waylon and he had said he had thought of that name too. We went with the name Waylon because it is not a name you hear often.

  5. My husband loves Waylon Jennings!

  6. We gave birth to our 4th and finally child in 2019 (a bit of a marriage “oops” – our daughter before him was born in 2010, and we “done” having children after her)… and since I got to name our daughter before him, my husband was allowed to name our new son (within some mommy limits of course haha). We knew from the time we found out he was a boy that he would take my husbands middle name, which is Jay, but my husband was completely torn between two first names – Wyatt or Waylon. Wyatt was a COMPLETE NO from me, just didn’t sit well with me especially with Jay. The moment he suggested Waylon though, I was in love! Yes, Waylon Jennings (even though his birth given name was Wayland) played a part in why my husband chose it… my husband has always loved old school western, American outlaw type stuff.
I ended up having to have an emergency c-section at 36 weeks… and Waylon Jay ended up being born on the 4th of July and boy, oh boy does he live up to his old school, outlaw ALL American name! A little firework that totally completely what we never knew we were missing!

  7. Country singer name and he reminds me of my palpal

  8. I’ve always loved the name and also the musician.

  9. Yea… My name is Waylon Woody. I’m not even joking. Waylon Jennings is a blessing and a curse for me. When he died in 2002 (Which is the year I was born) I think that it caused a surge in popularity of the name. I am not named after that man (although I kind of am). Yes, I am sick of old-heads asking if I was named after him. Besides that, 10/10, beautiful name, excellent execution on my parent’s part. If you are considering naming your child Waylon I would do it, just bite the bullet, join the dark side.
    – God Bless your beautiful baby boy amen.

    • We had our little Waylon Jay on the 4th of July, 2019! And he is every bit as old school, outlaw, and ALL American as his name sounds, even complete with a naturally perfect growing bright blonde mullet hahaha. I’m not sure how popular the name is currently (we didn’t bother looking – we were set on the name either way) but I know Wyatt has become EXTREMELY popular so I was worried that Waylon would quickly skyrocket as well. I actually just looked it up cause I was curious – in 2019 it was the #104th most popular name and right now it’s the #59th. It’s the most popular it’s ever been since it was introduced by Mrs. Jennings in the 1960’s (she actually named him Wayland but tweaked it to Waylon so he wouldn’t be associated with the Baptist church near them that she wasn’t aware of, which is how the name Waylon actually came to be). I hope that the name starts to trail off a little bit, not because I don’t adore his name, I absolutely do, but I don’t want him to be 1 of 4 Waylon’s in his kindergarten class in the next couple years.

  10. We came up with Waylon as we love the singer Waylon jennings

  11. My husband picked out his name because Waylon Jennings is his favoite singer! I love the name it’s unique!

  12. We chose Waylon after Waylon Jennings he and my husbands father were good friends so the name was inevitable for us really. We love it he is almost 5 months old and is totally a Waylon

  13. Just loved the name

  14. In the womb, I felt my baby’s spirit to be generous and peaceful. There were many times in pregnancy when I felt held by my baby’s spirit as if baby was carrying me through our journey. I liked the name Waylon, and when I looked up the meaning (land beside the road) it made me think of my husband and I’s many road trips when I felt “held” by the road (or the vast land beside it). It felt generous and peaceful to me.

I don’t really care for Waylon Jenning’s music, so I don’t like that they share the same name. We are from TX, and I like that the name has TX history. But I don’t like it when people assume we named our son after Waylon Jennings or that I am a Waylon Jennings fan.

  15. We though that Waylon was a really cool name and after meeting our little guy we decided it was a perfect fit for him. I like that it is easy to spell and isn’t a very common used name.

  16. My husband always liked Waylon. I wasn’t sure about it until one day he said it, using it in context about our potential son and I fell in love with it. I love the old feeling to it and it’s not a common name but not weird. No we did not name him after Waylon Jennings, though we do enjoy some of his songs. The definition is a bit off “land beside the road” so I go off of lon meaning fierce and way meaning path. Waylon: fierce path. I do believe my son will make a fierce path in life and for the Lord.

  17. Named after Waylon Jennings. It’s a unique name and I love the country feel. We use Way & Waylo for nicknames. We paired the name with a family name for his middle & it is perfect for our feisty boy.
