The name Xavier true origin is Basque (which is in Spain but not Spanish ). The language is very unique and baffles linguists to its origin..
To pronounce it you say….”char…..bee….air” as the ‘x’ is pronounced a little like a cross between the Ch in Church and the Sh in shuttle . The Basque language pronounced the V as a B.
Other cultures Including the French and Spanish, which both border the basque region took in the name much later with the popularity of St Francis Xavier.
