  1. As my husband and I pondered names, a sign for rhubarb along the road sparked an unexpected inspiration: “Ruby,” a name that hadn’t crossed my mind before.

  2. While my husband and I were brainstorming names I saw a sign for rhubarb on the side of the road. It made me think of “Ruby,” I name I had never considered. I had just prayed that the Lord would help us name our child since names can have such significant meaning, so it caught my attention. (And because it’s unique and I didn’t have any negative associations with it, it stuck!) The more I mulled it over, the more meaning it gained for me. If there is one thing I want to pass onto my daughter besides a love for Jesus, it is for her to know that she is a treasure. Although I know I didn’t have to name her after a gem for her to learn that, I am reminded of it every time I say her name.

  3. We found out the sex of our baby at about 14 weeks. We had a couple first names we liked, and we knew her middle name was likely going to be Layne. Our anniversary was 1 month prior to my due date, and we decided to take a little trip to Cuchara Pass. We saw a street sign that was “Ruby Lane“. We looked at each other and one of us said “Ruby Layne” is a great name!

  4. We chose the name Ruby Ann before she was born. My husband and I both simply loved the name. My middle name is Ann, as is my mom’s and my husbands mom’s middle name. Ruby Ann is an absolute treasure, just like a ruby!

  5. Ruby was my grandmother’s name and husband’s grandmother was Catherine. So we have a baby girl Ruby Catherine.

  6. It came to me from God out of the blue. I don’t know anyone with this name but knew it could be her. I waited to name her until after we left the hospital (it’s ok to wait and it’s ok to not share the name you choose before birth!)
Middle name is Naya – means renewal

  7. Well Ruby is a precious stone. I was looking for a name that starts with R like mine. So I chose it because this is my first baby and she is such a gem ?

  8. My mother named me Ruby at first they were gonna name me poppy but after a while they chose Ruby because they though Ruby was a really heartwarming name.

  9. She is pure perfection!

  10. We thought it was a beautiful name

    • My names abby too?

  11. We chose Ruby to compliment her surname ‘Valentine’ & it matches her older sisters’ names; Annabelle & Charlotte. There is nothing that we dislike about the name Ruby & she already has cute nicknames such as ‘Rubes’ & ‘Ruby Dooby’. xx

  12. my parents were either going to name me Ruby or Scarlett, but decided against Scarlett because of Scarlett’s fever. My parents knew I was to be due in July, so it was a perfect fit. my mom got the name Ruby from the character Ruby from the book “The 5 People you meet in Heaven.” I love my name!

  13. Ruby is my birthstone!

  14. Ruby was my great grandmother’s name. My granddaddy, my mom’s dad, it’s his mom! She was the most kindest, sweetest, and caring person! Always someone with open arms and welcomed everyone around her!

Also my grandmother Schwind, my dad’s mom, it was her best friend’s name. They were very close and everyone adored her! So cool to think that my Ruby will be a friend to someone like that some day.

Joy is my middle name. I want to keep JOY going into the next generation! Fruit of the spirit!

Origin – Latin (hebrew – peninim).
The Ruby was one of the stones in the breastplate of the Israeli high priest. The price of wisdom and that of a virtuous woman is said to be far above rubies.
    (exodus 28:17, prov 3:15, 31: 10).

  15. My husband and I actually agreed on a girl name before I was even pregnant. We were talking and I was listing girl names like Alyssa and Capri and he was listing Diamond and Pearl and Ruby. I asked why he kept listing gem names and he responded “because she’s my precious little gem” and it stuck. Ruby was my favorite because I think it’s the cutest of the gem names, it’s the stone in my engagement ring and my favorite gem, and you still have a possible nickname like ru. We’ve been singing ruby scooby doo and rubychu because she sounds like a Pok?mon when she hiccups. Everyone loves the name and I haven’t ran into anyone else who is named that.

  16. She is named after my great grandma who passed away, so it’s special to me

  17. I named my daughter Ruby after my great grandmother. I always loved the name it always sounded so beautiful to me and grown up and mature. I love that I named her ruby and now her nicknames are kangaruby and ruerue and rubydubie.

  18. My yougest son chose my girls name or to more accurate, she told him what her name was. I had a name I really liked but one morning he woke up and came to me telling me he knew her name. He lifted me shirt and and put his hands on my belly with his cheek and ear pressed against my 32 week belly. He said, ” Good morning Ruby, it was nice to meet you last night.” My eyes filled up with tears and so she was named. He was 2 and a half at the time. When folks meet her they think we named her for her red hair.

For what I dont like about the name, seems everyone and their mother is named Ruby!!

  19. I named her after my grandma that died when I was only 4 years. She was supposed to be due around her birthday.

  20. I knew I wanted our daughters name to be a precious stone, and fell in love with Ruby when I saw it.

  21. Our first Daughter is named Jade and we wanted to honor my husbands great aunt so we went with another Stone name.

I love that it is a precious stone and that its a some what older name

She is wild and energetic like her great aunt Ruby

  22. We lived in a town donned the “Ruby of the Rockies.” We hadn’t given much consideration to Ruby, but had it on our short list of girl names. When she arrived, she was just so totally a “Ruby” in our eyes! A mountain jewel.
