My Husband and older son (20) choose the name as they live Scotland and whiskeys and liked the name Islay so we used the name but dropped the y .

Isla was a name we both loved. We wanted something with Scottish roots for my dad. I’m a teacher so also wanted a name that I hadn’t taught before.
Isla- meaning island
Her second name is Marina, after her great granny, who was so excited to meet her , but sadly passed away a week before she was born.
Marina- meaning from the sea.

These paired together felt fitting and are very special to us both.

We chose Isla because both her dad and I love the beach/tropical islands and actually went scuba diving with her in the womb before realizing she was with us! She’s happy and healthy and ready for island life with us 🙂

I heard the name Isla about 10 years before I became pregnant and I knew I loved it then because it was unusual and pretty. When it came time to name our baby, I came back to it and after some research found that it means “God is my light”. As someone who wants names to have a deeper meaning, I loved it even more. The only thing I could do without is that a lot of people pronounce it “iz-luh” rather than “eye-luh”. So if that would really bother you, maybe spell it “Ila“.

  Love this name but this is my worry – people saying Izla Lol. I don’t like the look of “Ila” as much so I think I’m just going to have to hope it picks up a little popularity or explain that it means Island and hope they “get it.” I have an Ava which is STILL mispronounced as Eva…there’s no winning with names!

My beloved and I are both of Scottish heritage so choosing a name connected to that culture was a great launching off point for us. Isla and Ness were our two choices, but Isla quickly became our favorite after a very short deliberation. We even had Isla picked out before her conception!
We love how musical it sounds to us, and the honoring of our heritage. We also love the natural connction with Isla meaning “island” or “little island”.
It’s about 50/50 on whether or not people have had to ask how to pronounce, guessing that it is “Iz-lah” not “Eye-lah”, but no doubt a little polite correction on our part as parents and for Isla as she grows up won’t be the end of the world.

We chose the name Isla because we liked how we didn’t know anyone in our lives with that name. Also, being a teacher makes choosing names tricky and this was a name I’ve never had a student with. The only thing I worry about is that people will pronounce it wrong. But we love our little peanut Isla Grace!

When my daughter was born, none of the names I had loved throughout my pregnancy seemed to fit her! She had such an incredibly calm, serene temperament and all of the names I had in mind suddenly seemed too frilly or prissy for her. The only name I could find myself calling her was Isla, and loved the meaning “island” which makes me think of a beach- babe , nature- loving, free spirited personality. As soon as we settled on the name (3 days after her birth!) it felt so right and we’ve received so many compliments on her beautiful name. Every time I say it or hear someone say it, it makes my heart sing. 🙂

We’ve always liked the name. On our honeymoon one of the first stops was the Isle of Islay in Scotland. It’s a gorgeous place and the area holds family history. It’s an island and my husband and I are both happiest by the ocean.

I love sea, beach, water and island. When I got pregnant we both agree with the name and middle name that related to sea and island.
And Yes! It’s a girl and her name is Morgan Isla.

My best friend actually suggested the name and my husband and I just really liked it. I like that it means island in several languages. We’ve been on a few tropical island trips and we just love island life so when we heard the name Isla, it seemed a perfect fit!

we chose isla because we love the uniqueness of it. also everywhere my husband and i have been involved an island or water, and my husband works in the marine industry! i love the sound of the name, but do not especially love the spelling, as many people pronounce it as it is spelled and do not associate it with island.

We wanted a girl name to match our other 2 that start with A and O. So her name had to start with I or E. We didn’t like any E names so we found Isla with the I names and I love how it looks. The s throws people off but I adore it. It’s perfect.

My husband and I were driving down the 101 on our way to Santa Barbara for the weekend. It was a beautiful, sunny day and I was 9 weeks pregnant..soon to find out my babies gender. We passed a sign that said Isla Vista and we both LOVED the name Isla (Pronounced “I-La”) and it’s vintage charm.

It had two meanings, Island or devoted to God. It was special to me because my eldest name means gift from god, and children are the most precious gift so I wanted to keep with the theme.
